The Benefits of Reading the Same Book Over and Over

10/22/2024

Did you know, there is research on reading the same book over and over? I will share this link below if you would like to dive into the weeds. One of the observations taken from this study, “when children read the same book several times, they were able to recognize and remember a new word better than kids who were read several different books containing the same vocabulary.” (Shultz, 2016). My younger brother was fascinated at ages 3-5 with “Jules Verne's, 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea”. It had a reading book that also came with a record of a voice reading the book. He would follow along and listen, over and over and over again. Before you know it, he had all of the words memorized and could read this short story at a very young age. So, find something your child is fascinated with, and let them have you read it over and over and over again! Happy reading!
